1.What Main Character is

Main Character is a work of interactive fiction. You create a fictionalised character, enter a simulated social world, and post, comment, and message your way through a story.

The cast is fictional. The recurring characters, their profiles, posts, comments, direct messages, rivalries, and opinions are generated by artificial intelligence. They are not real people, and nothing they say represents the views of any real person or of us. Any resemblance to a real person is coincidental and unintended.

The world is shared. Other real players enter the same world you do, and their posts and comments appear in your feed next to the characters’. So assume that what you post can be read by other people, and treat it as public — see section 3 of our Privacy Policy for exactly what is visible and what stays private. Content written by another player is theirs, not ours, and we do not endorse it.

The App is entertainment. It is not a social network, a dating service, a therapist, a friend, or a source of advice — financial, medical, legal, or otherwise. Do not rely on anything a character says as fact.

2.Who may use the App

You must be at least 13 years old to use the App. If you are between 13 and 17, you may use it only where the law allows and, where required, with the permission of a parent or guardian who agrees to these Terms on your behalf.

You must give an honest age range when you create your character. Your answer adds protections to your account, so misreporting it gives up safeguards that exist for your benefit. It does not remove the baseline: the content rules below that matter most apply to every player at every age, whatever anyone answers.

You may not use the App if you are barred from doing so under applicable law or if we have previously terminated your access.

3.Your account

The App creates an anonymous account for you when you first open it — no email address or password is required. That has a consequence you should understand:

Your account is tied to your device and to the App’s stored session. If you delete the App, wipe your device, or lose the device, we may have no way of proving that an account was yours, and your character and story may be unrecoverable. We are not liable for lost progress.

You are responsible for activity that happens through your account. Do not share your device or session with someone who should not have access to it.

Accounts that are created and abandoned are removed automatically: within 48 hours if no character was created, and after 30 days if a character was created but never used. See our Privacy Policy for details.

4.Rules of play

You agree that you will not use the App to create, send, or upload content that:

• sexualises minors in any way;
• is sexually explicit or sexually suggestive, at any age and on any surface;
• harasses, bullies, threatens, or targets a real person, including impersonating one or using their name, likeness, or private information;
• promotes hatred or violence against people on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, or age;
• encourages or depicts self-harm, suicide, or eating disorders;
• depicts graphic violence or cruelty;
• promotes illegal activity, or the sale of drugs, weapons, or other regulated goods;
• infringes someone else’s intellectual property, privacy, or other rights;
• is spam, a scam, or an attempt to advertise or solicit.

You also agree not to:

• attempt to circumvent, disable, or manipulate the App’s content moderation, rate limits, or safety systems, including through prompt injection or jailbreaking;
• reverse engineer, decompile, scrape, or automate access to the App or our servers, or use bots or scripts to play;
• access another player’s data, probe or attack our infrastructure, or interfere with the App’s operation;
• use the App or its outputs to train a competing model or to build a competing product;
• resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the App or the content generated within it;
• use the App for any unlawful purpose.

Do not post personal information. Yours or anyone else’s. Because your posts are visible to other players, do not include real names, addresses, schools or workplaces, phone numbers, other social media handles, or photographs of real people.

Moderation. Content you write, content our characters generate, and the display name, username and pronouns on your profile all pass through automated moderation. Sexual content is not permitted anywhere in the App, by any author, at any age — this is not something an adult account switches off. Because worlds are shared, public posts are judged as though a minor is reading them. We may block, remove, or alter content, restrict features, or suspend or terminate an account that breaks these rules — with stricter thresholds applied to accounts registered as minors. You can report content or a character from within the App, and we review reports. We are not obliged to pre-screen content, but we may.

5.Your content

You keep ownership of the content you create in the App — your posts, comments, messages, and character details (“Your Content”).

You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, adapt, and display Your Content for the limited purpose of operating, securing, and improving the App — including sending it to our AI provider so the story can respond to it, and processing it through moderation. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies retained in backups or safety records as described in our Privacy Policy.

You confirm that you have the right to submit Your Content and that it does not break the rules in section 4.

6.AI-generated content

Content in the App is generated by AI models, and AI models are imperfect. Generated content may be inaccurate, nonsensical, repetitive, or — despite our filters — upsetting or offensive. We do not endorse it, we cannot guarantee it, and we make no promise about its accuracy or suitability.

To the extent we hold any rights in the content the App generates for you, we assign them to you for your personal, non-commercial use, subject to these Terms. Note that AI-generated output may not be protected by copyright in some jurisdictions, and that similar content may be generated for other players.

If a character says something that seems seriously wrong, report it in the App.

7.Our intellectual property

The App itself — its software, design, artwork, characters, world, story systems, prompts, name, and branding — belongs to us or our licensors and is protected by intellectual property law. We grant you a personal, limited, revocable, non-transferable, non-exclusive licence to use the App for your own non-commercial entertainment. All rights not expressly granted are reserved.

8.Price and purchases

The App is currently free to use. There is no energy system, no forced advertising, and no paywall.

If we introduce optional paid features in the future, they will be sold through the Apple App Store or Google Play and governed by those stores’ payment terms. In that case: prices will be shown before you buy, subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled, you cancel through your store account’s subscription settings (deleting the App does not cancel a subscription), and refunds are handled by the store under its policy — we cannot issue them directly. Any virtual items or in-game currency are a limited licence with no real-world value, are not redeemable for money, and do not survive account termination.

9.Availability and changes

We may add, change, suspend, or remove features at any time, and we may limit availability of the App in a country or region. We may also stop offering the App altogether. We will give reasonable notice of a shutdown where we can, but the App is provided on an ongoing best-effort basis and we do not guarantee that your character, world, or story will be available forever.

10.Termination

You may stop using the App at any time and ask us to delete your account by emailing support@maincharacter.world.

We may suspend or terminate your access, with or without notice, if you break these Terms, if we are required to by law, or if continuing to serve you would create a risk for other users or for us. When an account is terminated, your character, world, and content may be permanently deleted. Sections 5 (as to licences already exercised), 6, 7, 11, 12, 13, and 15 survive termination.

11.Disclaimers

The App is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy, or uninterrupted or error-free operation.

Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under mandatory consumer protection law in your country, and if such law gives you guarantees we cannot exclude, those guarantees apply.

12.Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or lost game progress, arising from or related to your use of the App — even if we have been advised of the possibility.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability for all claims relating to the App is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or US $50.

We do not exclude liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded.

13.Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claim, loss, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of Your Content, your use of the App, or your breach of these Terms — except to the extent it results from our own wrongdoing.

14.Apple and Google

If you downloaded the App from the Apple App Store, you acknowledge that:

• these Terms are between you and us, not Apple, and Apple is not responsible for the App or its content;
• Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the App;
• if the App fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any); Apple has no other warranty obligation;
• Apple is not responsible for addressing any claim relating to the App, including product liability, regulatory non-compliance, or consumer protection claims;
• Apple is not responsible for investigating or resolving any third-party intellectual property claim relating to the App;
• Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.

Equivalent terms apply to Google LLC where you obtained the App from Google Play. Your use of the App must also comply with the applicable store’s terms of service.

15.Disputes and governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United Arab Emirates, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. The courts of the United Arab Emirates have exclusive jurisdiction, except that if you are a consumer you may also bring proceedings in the courts of the country where you live, and mandatory consumer protections there continue to apply to you.

Before starting formal proceedings, please email support@maincharacter.world so we can try to resolve the issue informally. We ask for 30 days to do so.

16.General

• Entire agreement. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between us about the App.
• Severability. If a provision is unenforceable, the rest stays in force.
• No waiver. Not enforcing a provision is not a waiver of it.
• Assignment. You may not assign these Terms; we may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
• Changes. We may update these Terms. If the changes are material we will notify you in the App before they take effect. Continuing to use the App after that means you accept them.
